Discover a Welcoming Art Group in Carshalton & Wallington

CandWAG Team 5 min read

Are you an aspiring or experienced artist looking to join a creative community in South London? The Carshalton and Wallington Art Group (CandWAG) is one of the region's longest-running and most vibrant art clubs — and we're inviting you to be part of it.

About Us: A Creative Community Since 1950

Founded in 1950, CandWAG has brought together generations of artists to inspire, learn, and create. Whether you're just starting your artistic journey or have years of experience, our doors are open to you. We foster a friendly, inclusive space where creativity thrives.

"Inspire. Learn. Create." — our motto says it all.

Weekly Meetings at Holmwood Hall

Every Thursday at 7:30 PM, we meet at Holmwood Hall (behind Wallington United Reformed Church, SM6 0EU) for art-filled evenings. Sessions alternate between:

  • Practical workshops (bring your own materials!)
  • Artist demonstrations (watercolour, mixed media, and more)
  • Guest speakers and art challenges
  • Social and feedback nights

Annual Exhibitions and Events

Our two major public exhibitions showcase our members' artwork to the wider community:

Spring Exhibition

May at All Saints Church, Carshalton

Winter Exhibition

December at All Saints Church (Advent celebration)

We also host:

  • The Bert Houghton Landscape Prize and other member competitions
  • A festive Christmas Party
  • Summer plein air painting outings
  • An annual AGM & Awards Night

These events celebrate both art and the vibrant community behind it.
